Moonlit Butte is a small oil painting, just 3 by 4 inches, that focuses on a local mountain peak overlooking our town. I worked entirely with a palette knife to build texture and form, using shades of black, white, and gray to bring out the rugged character of the rock. Set against a solid turquoise background, the peak stands out sharply, its surfaces catching light and shadow in dynamic relief. A simple white circle to the right suggests the moon, adding a quiet, steady light to the scene. This contrasts with the rough textures of the mountain while grounding the composition in a moment of calm and clarity. The piece reflects an ongoing interest in how landscape shapes identity and memory, especially in places we come to know intimately.

Starry Starry Night 3x3 inch oil on card of our local landmark bathed in moonlight after a fresh fall of snow. This is an older painting that I was not pleased with so I tweaked it a bit.

Luminescence is a small oil painting, 5 by 7 inches, presented with triple matting and framed at 9 1/2 by 11 1/2 inches. The piece centers on a textured sphere that recalls the moon’s cratered surface, rendered in cool blues and grays against a dark background. The lighting shapes the form with a subtle shift from shadow to light, emphasizing its three-dimensional presence. Most of the colors were softly blended with my fingers to create a tactile surface that reflects the calm and stillness of deep space.

Ethereal Drift is a small oil painting, just 3 by 4 inches, that captures a quiet moment in the night sky. This piece came from a photo I took of the evening sky, and working with the oils allowed me to explore the subtle shifts between shadow and light, texture and depth, to convey a calm yet mysterious cosmic presence. My nUnleashed is a compact tempera piece, just 4 by 4 inches, where red, black, and white move in bold, sweeping gestures. The red shapes take center stage with organic energy, contrasting sharply against textured black and white areas that build depth and balance. Creating this work followed a week of creative block, when I chose to release control and let the colors guide the process naturally.
