Autumn’s Breath is a small tempera painting, just 4 by 4 inches matted to 5 by 5 inches, where vigorous strokes of yellow, red, brown, and black collide across the surface. The layers of color push and pull against each other, their energy contained within areas of white that add both space and tension to the composition. The fluid movement in the marks reflects the shifting, restless quality of autumn itself. A wide black frame anchors the piece, drawing attention to the contrast and texture that emerge as the colors intersect. This work grew from my desire to translate the season’s transient energy into a focused moment of abstraction.
