Maui Sunset measures 8 by 12 inches and combines giclee print on canvas with hand-applied oil paint to bring a layered, tactile quality to the work. The piece explores the moment the sun meets the horizon over water—a bold band of white and yellow separates deep blues below from the rich oranges and rust tones above. Through varied brushwork—from thick horizontal strokes in the water to sweeping and dabbing gestures in the sky—I aimed to capture the dynamic energy of the scene while emphasizing the contrasts that define it. This work was inspired by the unique light and color of Maui sunsets, and the process of enhancing a giclee print allowed me to revisit and deepen the original’s textures and forms.
