Autumn is a small watercolor, just 3 by 4 inches, painted on 140 lb. cold press paper. This piece captures a quiet landscape where the foreground is rich with green foliage, balanced against a rocky stretch of reddish-brown mountain on the right. Beyond that, distant blue mountains rise under a pale, soft sky, creating a calm and natural atmosphere. My approach here involved gentle brushstrokes and a subtle blending of colors to bring out the textures and layers within the scene. I was inspired by the way autumn in the upcountry reveals itself—not through bold hues alone, but through the nuanced shifts between the greens and the warm oranges and yellows that begin to emerge. This mini watercolor is one of my rarer explorations within this medium, framed simply to enhance its straightforward, rustic quality.
